I'm taking a class this weekend at the Center for Book Arts on lo-tech polymer printmaking. So far, so good! Today we drew on film negatives with X-acto knives, burned the drawings onto plates and printed them on the letterpress. Tons of fun.

Commander USA: a look back

"Commander USA's Groovie Movies" is unfamiliar ground to me, but from the looks of things, it seems it was a contemporary of the Elvira and "Up All Night" shows, as a part of the last major wave of weekend B-movie institutions on TV in the tail end of the 1980s.

To that end, is Joe Bob Briggs' show, the last of the pack, still on the air? The commentary tracks on his DVDs are always great--"Hell's Angels '69" is unwatchable without it.

Anyway, there are a ton of "Commander USA" clips on You Tube. If the videos above tickle your fancy, click away.

Open question: do any of you know of a show on TV and/or online that presents Grade B movies with an entertaining host in the grand old tradition? If so, pass whatever information you've got my way! Thanks in advance.

The Christian Pirate Puppets played at the tough-to-find Brookyn Tea Party last night on a quadruple CD release party bill with Nan and the One Night Stands, Dave End and Major Matt (with The Leader)! It was an awesome time.

Just the ticket to add a little oomph to that 505 you got a good deal on. Actually, mixing the outputs-- with one channel running clean and the other through the "Boom Box" and then into a cheap gate pedal with a severe threshold setting-- might be just what the doctor ordered for that machine!

On a completely unrelated side note, does anyone know where I can score a pitch-to-voltage converter for cheap? Doepfer's A-119 isn't exactly what I'm looking for, but it's definitely along the right lines. If you can recommend something, please do. Thanks!

Professional wedding photos

As you may or may not know, Jess and I were married this past Friday at City Hall in Manhattan. It just so happened that a reporter and photographer from the New York Times were on hand, writing a story on Leap Day weddings.

A few of our quotes ended up in the article (which you can read here), but the photos did not. Here are four of them, taken by the very friendly, very talented and very cold (it was 10 degrees out) Christian Hansen.
